Because of false positives for specific addresses, I'd like to skip spam detection for email addresses that are in my address book.

Understanding that sender addresses are often spoofed, perhaps an extra check can be added, such as ONLY skip detection IF the sender email matches the Return-Path header OR IF the message contains valid references in the "In reply to" or "Reference" headers.

Not foolproof, but would greatly reduce the number of false positives from regular correspondents.

You have said both "scam" and "spam". Is this intentional?

Are you aware that Thunderbird itself doesn't use the word "spam"? Its own anti-spam filtering uses the word "Junk" and adds an icon to suspect messages, usually an orange flame. It may also move them to a Junk folder.

If you have a "spam" folder, or messages are being classified as "spam" then there is some external agency at work. This may be your own security software, or some operated by your email provider.

The rate is so high on newsletter providers that the scam filter is worse than useless - It's crying wolf, so when a scam is presented, you're less likely to recognize it. For example, www.1105newsletters.com sends out newsletters for www.steamuniverse.com and www.campustechnology.com. EVERY message is tagged, because the links lead back to the sites. Without some additional criteria, I've been forced to turn off scam detection or have a good portion of my incoming emails flagged as false positives. PLEASE IMPROVE THIS FILTER! It's a fantastic idea poorly implemented.
