Thunderbird has been compliant for nearly a decade now. If you're running the latest version of Thunderbird, you don't have to do anything except sign in to your Google account when a window opens asking you to do so as you use Thunderbird. There's an ongoing automatic conversion of accounts to OAuth2 in Thunderbird. As long as you're not blocking cookies, all should be fine. See Automatic Conversion of Google mail accounts to OAuth 2.0 Authentication
