I have only one email account on Thunderbird, a second account forwards all it's received emails to my primary email account. I see in the folders list both 'Inbox' and 'All mail', plus several folders I have made and direct emails to with rules/filters. My question is: why do I need an 'All Mail' folder in addition to the Inbox and Sent folders? Is it necessary? What function does it perform in my case?

Thank you, however I don't have a Gmail account. My only account is Proton Mail.

Proton Mail support will have the best answers for you. See https://proton.me/support/using-folders-labels

Once you've determined it's importance, you can choose to unsubscribe from it in Thunderbird, so that it doesn't appear in the Folder Pane.
