Hi bluepicaso, thank you for the video.

Is this problem new in Firefox 21 or did you notice it in previous versions?

Can you check the about:crashes tab to see whether Firefox is logging these crashes and, if so, try clicking the link to check whether the crash server links your report with a known bug (scroll down the page toward the bottom to see any bug links).

Those online crash reports can be hard to interpret (at least for me). Some of the volunteers may be able to offer comments if you post a few of the crash IDs in a reply.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash ID's to help us learn more about your crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the address bar (that's where you enter your website URL) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent crash ID's that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your response here.

Thank you for your help!

More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

I think you have tried the logical thing with Firefox Safe Mode, since that should bypass display driver issues (disabling hardware acceleration) and any Ubuntu-specific extensions. I'm not sure what else could be in play here...

I haven't replicated the problem on Windows 7, but I haven't tried a 500 response on localhost. Does a 200 status response from an external server generate the same display glitch/crash?

If the Firebug issue is a recent performance degradation, check out the end of the following thread in case it helps with that: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/960066#answer-439445

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

To Enable SafeMode

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
  • Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox"; Linux: "Firefox/File > Quit")

Those are crashes with the Flash Player plugin ([@ libflashplayer.so@0x255d39])
I'm not sure why these crashes should happen when you open the Web Console.

Do you otherwise have problems with Flash?
