I've heard there is a way to use FF as a default browser but still have select desktop shortcuts use only IE because that's what they need to work. How do I do that?

I'm still using XP3 pro but will soon be on Win7.

  1. You ask about modifying desktop shortcuts.
  2. I tell you how to do that.
  3. You post about a non-existent menu item that allows you to open IE from inside Firefox and mark that as the solution.

Terrific.

Anyway, an add-on is required for that.

  1. On your Start Menu or desktop you have a shortcut that launches Internet Explorer. Right-click it and choose Copy.
  2. Right-click the desktop and choose Paste.
  3. Right-click the newly created shortcut and choose Properties.
  4. On the General tab, give the shortcut an appropriate name.
  5. On the Shortcut tab, at the end of the Target box, add a space followed by the URL you want to open. The end result should look something like this:
  6. Most sites keep their icon as /favicon.ico in the root of the site. You can save this file locally and use it as an icon for the shortcut.

GB,

Thanks for the info.

Here's another way from "antik" at windowsbbs.com :

"If you have already opened the page in FF, right click on a blank spot and the Menu will open with this line at the bottom:

"View This Page in IE"

Have a great week,

Rob

GB,

Oooops! Sorry!

I was confused.

I had earlier installed the add-on IE View which probably acts similar as the one you suggested.

My response was obviously colored by that.
