How do I configure firefox to open outlook email links in a new tab rather than having it "overwrite" a currently open tab? For instance say I have a tab open and am viewing the information on it. An email comes in through outlook and I want to read a contained link. When I click on the link, it opens in the tab I currently have open. I would like it to open in a new tab.

You mean Outlook the stand-alone application, and not Outlook the new iteration of Live mail (live.com).

I think the default is to open in a new tab in the last active window, but you could check here and override the default:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste link.o and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external preference and edit it to 3 and OK the change

The options are:

-1 = apply the setting in Options > General > Tabs to external links (default) 3 = open external links in a new tab in the last active window 2 = open external links in a new window 1 = open external links in the last active tab replacing the current page

When you select a link on the current web page, the browser will change to that page. Right click the link and select Open In . . . . .

I guess I didn't make myself very clear. I understand how to open a link in a new tab. What I am trying to do is have a link in an outlook email open a brand new tab in an already opened firefox with several tabs open. Currently the outlook email link will open on the current that is open in firefox. So for instance, I have outlook open and am looking at firefox say with two tabs a and b and I have tab b open. Now I change to read my email and it has link. I click on the email link in outlook and it opens the link in tab b. I want it to open a brand new tab say tab c. If Ihad tab a open in firefox the email link would open there on tab a.

Thank you very much . That worked. (Yes I am using Outlook 2010 stand alone and not live.com.)
