Is there a way of deleting a single message off the server which keeps downloading to my inbox repeatedly?

For some reason and only periodically, the same message keeps coming into my inbox. It's frustrating because it must be blocking other messages from downloading. I know that I can set up a "delete messages off server" setting with an appropriate time-scale, but this will delete all incoming messages. I just want to be able to stop the offending message from continually downloading again after I have deleted it from my inbox - this can happen up to 30+ times for the same message!

I have gone to my BT webmail and your "solution" message was in there together with other messages that were not in Thunderbird. The 'offending' message wasn't there strangely, so I'm hoping the problem is cleared. It has happened before with other messages (from different senders), so it would be nice to know if it's a Thunderbird problem or something else that causes it?
