Flash player was working great with Firefox 41 and it stopped. I am not aware of any flash upgrade that happened, but one could have. In the mean time, Firefox upgraded to 42. Flash still does not work. When I go to a web site that requires flash I get a black box with a red circle with a white F in it and it just hangs there. My newspaper uses Olive software to let you read their paper and it does this. It would be helpful if I had a list of plugins and addons required to use Flash. I really would like to get Flash to working again. It is a pain to go to Microsoft Edge to visit the websites requiring Flash. Thanks for your help.

If needed I would be willing to start afresh with everything, but I am not sure how to proceed.

There was an update to Adobe Flash Player today. I might recommend reinstalling the extension:

hi after ff update to 42 adobe flash stopped working. none of solution found in internet worked, but with my quite interesting IT background I was able to find solution - remember it is just for firefox. I have win7 64bit but it should not be a problem to go with this solution on other win versions. Important is firefox. My problem was I couldnt get shockwave flash plugin to be recognized & loaded by firefox even it was installed in system properly.

1. Exit Firefox. If you have just installed latest version of flash version you dont need to uninstall it. Just remember to use latest OFFICIAL version. I was using also adobe lab flash version (v20) but it was freezing some websites... If you have old version you can uninstall it using official adobe uninstaller. 2. after installation in win 7 64bits there is a main folder accessible via two different paths - one is for w32 apps and other for 64bit apps in win64bit env, File you need is :

c:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_19_0_0_245.dll also available in linked directory seen by windows apps:

c:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_19_0_0_245.dll

3. if you have located the file simply copy it to YOUR USER mozilla data directory :(in win7)

c:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR USER NAME>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\plugins\

as two separate files: NPSWF32_19_0_0_245.dll NPSWF64_19_0_0_245.dll

4. start Firefox, go to addons->plugins. You should now see shocwave flash plugin with following details: Shockwave Flash 19.0 r0 NPSWF32_19_0_0_245.dll, NPSWF64_19_0_0_245.dll

5. VERY IMPORTANT: uncheck flash protected mode.close addon window. restart firefox.

6 DONE.

I am still on Windows 7 (64 bit) and still on the previous version of Adobe Flashplayer, but have been experiencing the same problem. I am shy on download bandwidth at the moment, so will have to wait until my overnight "free period" to download the latest version of Adobe Flash. However, disabling Adobe Flash "Protected Mode" and "Hardware Acceleration", as described in the Adobe Support forum, appears to have resolved my problem - even with the older version.

To disable Flashplayer Protected Mode, start Firefox and go to Tools > Add-ons > Plugins. Find the entry for "Shockwave Flash" in the list and LEFT click on "Options". At the bottom of the Options list, if the box to the right of "Enable Adobe Flash protected mode" is checked, LEFT click on it to uncheck it. Restart Firefox. Be advised that disabling Protected Mode involves some security risks. The choice is yours. If you are unwilling to accept this, then do not perform this procedure. You may want to try just disabling hardware acceleration to see if that, alone, will resolve you problem. It did NOT for me. I had to disable BOTH, so I may resort to a different browser for video work. I am going to hate that, as I have been with this browser since version 1 of Netscape Navigator.

To disable Adobe Flashplayer hardware acceleration, select a Flash video to play and left click on the "Play" arrow. As the video is loading, point to the video window and RIGHT click on it. When the menu pops up, LEFT click on "Settings" (NOT Global Settings). You may have to LEFT click on "Settings" several times very quickly to get it to register. When the "Settings" window comes up, if the "Enable hardware acceleration" box is checked, LEFT click on it to uncheck it. Close the window and restart Firefox. Firefox has its own hardware acceleration option, but it was not necessary for me to disable it to get Flashplayer working, so I left it enabled.

UPDATE:

Just downloaded and installed Firefox 43.0, and Adobe Flash is still working with the modifications described in my 12-12-2015 post.
