Using Windows 10 with latest updates 64 bit and the last 3 firefox updates, currently 46 have caused firefox hangs and crashes. The only extensionn is adblocker, which has been disabled. These events occur on both my laptop and desktop. The problems do not occur immediately, usually in the middle of reading an article. The problems do not occur using other browsers.

Since your question details do not list your Plugins, could you list them? I assume you might have Flash, but what else?

Does the issue occur in Safe Mode? How to start Firefox in Safe Mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode#w_how-to-start-firefox-in-safe-mode. Safe Mode overrides some settings as well as Extensions and Themes, but not Plugins.

If Safe Mode doesn't work, could you try Bloomber with NoScript on and the minimum number of domains allowed? NoScript: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/. This is just to test if a certain page element or external domain load is the issue.
