How to prevent a message in the Inbox from changing from "unread" to "read" when I delete the message above it?
Every time I "delete" a message in the Inbox, the message below it ALWAYS changes from the dark "unread" appearance to a shaded "read" appearance even though it has not been opened. What should I do to prevent that?

Currently, when you delete a message the focus goes to next email, so if it was 'unread' then it will change to 'read' and will display in the Message Pane, so it has been opened.
If you do not want this, there is an addon extension you can use called 'Deselect on Delete'
In order to install a downloaded extension, please do the following:
- Click the menu button and choose Add-ons.
- Drag your downloaded XPI file to the Add-ons Manager tab and drop it.
or
- Click the menu button and choose Add-ons.
- Click the gear icon at the top-right corner to the left of the search box and select Install Add-on From File…
- Locate the XPI file you downloaded and click Open.
- You may need to restart Thunderbird when prompted.
For more detailed instructions and information about installing add-ons, see Installing an Add-on in Thunderbird.

Thank you. The Deselect on Delete add-on extension solved the problem. Robert Else
