It does not look like LIghtning in Thunderbird can send an email reminder for an event.

When a calendar event is created in Lightning, it allows you to create a reminder , ie 5 minutes, or even custom reminder of 1 hour etc, before the event. However, the reminder is only in form of a pop up, not an email. Also if you invite attendees by email addresses, then you can only send an email on the initial creation of the Calendar event, an email never gets sent for the reminder.

There is no way that 1 hour before or 1 day before (whatever reminder time you choose), that it seems like lightning can send an email reminder , only pop up. Can this feature be added? Lightning can obviously send an immediate event notification when the calendar event is created. Just need to add the same SMTP reminder for when the reminder is set (again 1 day, 1 hour etc, before the event) to all the attendees instead of just a pop up to the originator.

Again, Lightning does have the SMTP capability for the one time initial send of the calendar event. It just needs to use that same SMTP function to send for the reminder alert, instead of just using pop ups for local originator.

Thank you,

Dhyan

Email isn't real time. What you do send is an email notification of the event that the recipient should add to their own calendar.

Your solution requires that your own Lightning is open and running and on-line at the precise time you want the reminder to be sent. So why not just send the reminder yourself?

Better would be an online service that sends the reminder on your behalf, in real time. Even then it carries the risk of messages being delayed or lost, or the intended recipients being offline.

Zenos,

Actually our branch of users have their Email Application/calendar open 24 hours a day as they are all on Linux Workstations. They do not log off their workstations when they go home, they just lock their screens. So they are connected to the internet all the time with their applications running. Since the reminder alert function is already there, and the SMTP function is there for emailing, can you make the SMTP/Email reminder alert available as well to notify all the attendees of the meeting. It would be very much appreciated. People could schedule the alert reminder for their meetings to be sent out on the day of or day before the meeting. Sometimes a meeting event has been on the calendar for months and have been forgotten. So its very crucial to get an email reminder. I have read so many posts regarding this asking for this functionality , I think it would help a tremendous amount of people.

Thanks again in advance!

Any update on this if it can slated to be done? Add SMTP functionality to reminders, instead of just local POP ups?

Thank you!!
