I purchased a new laptop. I exported bookmarks to an html file on my desktop and copied them to a thumb drive. I then copied them to my new laptop. I then imported the bookmarks into Firefox on the laptop. They were magically added to the bookmarks on my desktop. It took a long time to delete the extraneous bookmarks.

Note that easiest would have been to restore the most recent JSON backup.

  • Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore

When you import an HTML backup then the bookmarks in the file are merged with existing bookmarks, so you can expect a lot of duplicates.
