With new install of 4.01 can't drag icons onto bookmarks bar. Help!

more options

Bookmarks bar remains empty. In brand new 4.0.1 on a new laptop, I enabled bookmarks toolbar but it won't let me drag a website icon onto it. When I drag the little icon from the left side of the address bar down to the bookmarks bar, it has the icon with a little "no smoking" circle with a line through it, and won't allow me to drop it on the bar. Works fine on my other computer with 4.01. Also, after I had this problem I thought I could fix it by starting up the sync function (which I had never used before). The new computer now has all the bookmarks in the bookmarks menu, but still nothing in the bar.
