I recently installed utorrent.The problem started after that.The home page is Google, but on opening a new tab, I don't get the thumbnails that is usually displayed, instead search.conduit page is opened.How can I get my old settings back? I even uninstalled utorrent to see if this problem goes away, but it doesn't.

It looks like Conduit/Utorrent changed your browser.newtab.url preference. First, double check your installed programs and Firefox extensions for any Conduit related material or a "Utorrent Browser Bar." Uninstall if found.

  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter. The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear.
  2. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
  3. Type browser.newtab.url in the search box
  4. Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and change the url to about:newtab
  5. Also search about:config for Conduit/Utorrent preferences. Search for Conduit and Utorrent. If one is found, right-click it and choose reset

I don't use Utorrent, but what may have happened is that the Utorrent installer also installed Conduit. When you are installing programs, be sure to read and don't go click happy.

Thank you, but I was able to solve the problem already. There was a button named "Remove" just below the space where we enter the item to be searched in a search engine. On clicking this, I was able to return to the original new tab page. I wasn't being trigger happy while installing utorrent, there was nothing there indicating that conduit will be installed. Nevertheless, thanks a lot for trying to help me in solving my problem.
