Gmail multiple account login logging me into the wrong account
Since the latest overhaul of Firefox (which is great overall) I'm having problems on both OSX and Win 8.1 with the handling of Google's multiple accounts authentication.
If I log out of one account (say, my work account) and then try to log into another (say, my personal account -- choosing it from the 'choose an account' screen) it then logs me into the work account no matter how many times I log out of the work account and try to log into a different account. It's like it's not clearing the previous session properly or something. This is with 29 and now 29.0.1.
On my mac I tried clearing cache, and deleting the cookies.sqlite all to no avail.
Thanks for any help. Other browsers are working fine.

How are you logging in? Do you enter your email address and password in the Sign In screen, or do you use a password manager program?

Thanks for the quick response. I do use a password manager (new to using one, but was fine until FF29) and it appears it's giving me the wrong password at times. I guess it need to be updated.
I never thought of this as gmail makes it look like you're entering your password and logging into a specific account so I wouldn't think the other accounts password would work (shows your account image and no email entry just names the account you're logging into), but the password manager must change a hidden username field or something behind the scenes.
I had the same problem and fixed it using the good old "nuclear" option as described below. I actually didn't try just the cache and cookies; I cleared everything. For the smoothest browsing experience, just follow the directions below. If that doesn't work, try this process again, but check all of the boxes in step 4.
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:
- Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
- Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
- Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
- From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
- Now click the OK button.
Further information can be found in the Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
While this does work, for me it only works temporarily. If we use Firefox sync or a password manager, the bad username/password will be restored again.
If you're using a Password Manager, any change of password needs to be updated in the database. If you have multiple accounts from the same source, a Password Manager like LastPass will recognize for example that you have Gmail1 and Gmail2.
In theory, a Password Manager like LastPass should recognize that there are two or more accounts and log people in appropriately.
In reality, LastPass appears to have a bug which will log users in with the wrong account. I replicated this bad behavior on both Windows & Linux.
The point here is that the problem described in this ticket cannot always be solved by Cor-el's suggestion. In my case with LastPass, I had to fix the problem with the password manager.
This is happening to me. In my case, the other suggestions in this thread such as "Forget About This Site" and 'good old "nuclear" option' only worked temporarily. Something would eventually restore the login information for the other accounts.
Thanks to designerwood's suggestion for pointing me in the right direction.
Here's what I did in LastPass.
- Open the LastPass Password Vault
- Search for accounts.google.com . This will display a list of saved logins for Google.
- For the accounts which are giving you problems, select the 'Action' icon. Then select the 'Never Autofill' box.
Using this method, I am now able to log into Google with my primary account.
