You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Windows hides some file extensions by default. Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension. You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.

Wasn't the problem. Says it should go to home page but still doesn't.

I tried typing in the address bar about:config and changing the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once from "false" to "true". The change does not stay and reverts back to "false".

Did you try deleting the user.js file and it came back, or did you not try to delete it? This article has a section on tracking down the user.js file: How to fix preferences that won't save.

I followed the instructions for removing the user.js file. It looks like this has fixed the problem. Thank you for your help!

I am also having this same problem - but I don't have a user.js file on my PC. Also, the issue doesn't happen all the time. I know I sound like an idiot. I work in IT, and most of the time Firefox will open to my home page. But occasionally it will "try" to act like it is opening the last page I viewed, but is reports, "This is embarrassing ... can't open ..." and then it shows the information to the last page I viewed. It really makes no sense.

I'll supply any info you might need. Do I need to open a new question for this? Sorry, I'm really new here.

Hi Einstein47, you get the "This is embarrassing" page if Firefox attempted a crash recovery but for one reason or another wasn't able to restore your previous session automatically. So I would say that you are having occasional Firefox crashes, perhaps during shutdown, and if it has reached an annoying level, it would make sense to start a new thread.

The last section of this article describes how to submit crash data to Mozilla and post a link to it here for a volunteer to review: Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly).

You can start a new question at the following link. If the article suggestions are not helpful, keep scrolling down to continue with the form.
