Hi there,

I recently used Avast to scan my computer and presumably I forgot to remove the option to make Yahoo my homepage, now every time I type anything in the address bar it goes straight to the Yahoo search, very frustrating as frankly I can not stand Yahoo, means I can not just search for words in the address bar and go to my chosen search engine. I have reset settings in the settings menu, removed yahoo from the searches to no avail. Very frustrating, any help would be greatly appreciated.

It really does irritate me how an 'Antivirus' software seems to be the one things messing with my settings and other applications like this!

You may have ad / mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

After the problem is fixed, Bookmark and use this; Download the Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
