When I backup bookmarks the regular way (export bookmarks to html), the bookmarks toolbar bookmarks aren't saved, so I found another way to save the bookmarks toolbar urls as an html file. I have that file saved in a doc. I recently lost all of the bookmarks and folders that I had in the bookmarks toolbar. How can I reinstall the bookmarks toolbar bookmarks and folders from the html file I saved?

Hi

It is very similar to the way that you backed up the bookmarks:

  • From the toolbar, select the "Show your bookmarks" option, followed by "Show All Bookmarks"
  • Select "Import and Backup" followed by "Import Bookmarks from HTML"
  • Navigate to the html file to install those as your bookmarks.

I hope that this helps, but if not, please come back here and we can looked into a different solution for you.

The bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar folder should be included in an HTML backup. In some case Firefox might not recognize the Bookmarks Toolbar folder in the backup as a system folder and instead adds them to the Bookmarks Menu folder of to another folder.

Just to be sure, you can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder.
