I'm trying to understand why my pc slows down so much; as I type this I have a 2 second delayed response. I reduced the data on my HDD to 50% of 1TB, ran a defrag, and things worked as they should for 4 days; in this time I did not switch off the machine. Multiple virus checks were run, no probs. Then to switch off & on the machine and I'm back to a 2-3 second retardation, depending how many webpages are open. I'm hoping the prob could be with the UAC Visualization. Any ideas welcome.

My specs are Win 7, 64x, i5, 8GB RAM, with a simple standard sized monitor. No gaming is done on this machine.

Open registry editor (regedit.exe) and look for the following key: MenuShowDelay.

Its default value is 400 (milliseconds). Changing it to 0 will eliminate any delay when displaying a menu.

Tx; I looked for it, even the Help function, couldn't find it.

Have you tried a scan with https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/ if not please do so and see if that helps. You will have to google every entry found to figure out to save it or delete it. Or post in Malwarebytes forum for help.

UAC should not be causing that but you can turn it off to check : https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/4820/how-to-really-completely-disable-uac-on-windows-7/ (((OOPS WRONG UAC, my bad)))

It could be a memory leak....
