Java plugin won't install on latest update 61.0.1 32 bit
I have windows 7 32bit with Firefox v61.01 32 bit. The latest update removed the java plugin so I uninstalled Java and reinstalled. It works fine on Internet Explorer 11 but the plugin will not install on Firefox. Yes I've checked the Add-ons Manager. Yes I did close Firefox before installing and yes I've restarted Firefox. I've also installed a plugin that automatically adds websites to the allowed list on Java. So any solutions on hot to get Java plugin to install on Firefox? We have a proprietary program that requires a Java enabled browser that is not Chrome or Internet Explorer. So any suggestions?

Hi DavidCWP, are you sure that huge investment didn't include making the app(let) compatible with Java Web Start? Firefox should be able to launch JWS programs without a plugin.
As noted in the article linked in the first reply, the last version of Firefox that runs the Java plugin (in a tab) is the Extended Support Release of Firefox 52, 32-bit. We are now up to Firefox 52.9.0esr, which will be the last release in that series.
Note that the bookmarks/history database, and session history files, of Firefox 56 and later are not downwards compatible with Firefox 52. However, you should be able to restore a bookmark backup. See: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer.

- Switch to Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) for personal use

Not very many websites use Java anymore, but you could decide to use Internet Explorer when you're on sites that need Java.

IE won't work with the proprietary software we use. Also we just spent $30k to make it compatible with the latest versions of Java. So I need it to work on Firefox.
The plan to axe Java has been in the works for many years. Unfortunately, you can't use Java (or any NPAPI plugin) in Firefox. Even Oracle, the company that develops Java, are eliminating it.

'Hate to disappoint you, but even the ESR version will stop supporting Java at the end of next month .....

All modern browsers have already said "Goodbye" to the plugin.
Thanks all. We will be having words with the programmers about their software.
