T-Bird CONTINUOUSLY asking for passwords

I migrated my T-Bird profile from a Windows machine to Linux (never had any issues when doing this previously). All my accounts are there, but I am constantly prompted for passwords. I mean as soon as I enter one and check the "remember with password manager" box, I get another prompt (for a different account- but they eventually repeat and never stop). It's hard to quit T-Bird because I have to continuously hit the ESC key to clear the PWD dialog while trying to click the application's close button. I thought of going into offline mode to troubleshoot or fix, but would have to start T-Bird from the shell (if I knew the correct switch).

How do I get this fixed?
