I changed the password on my att.net e-mail account and Thunderbird no longer logs into it. "Mail server inbound.att.net responded: Server error - Please try again later." I'm using inbound.att.net and port 995, SSL and normal password authentication. I tried creating an ATT "secure password key" to no avail. I tried IMAP instead of POP3 - doesn't work.

What does that mean, that you couldn't create the key, or that Tbird still didn't log in using it? Open Tbird's password manager (Options > Security > Passwords > Saved Passwords) and delete the att entries you find there, then when Tbird asks for the new password, give it the secure mail key. Also, change Account Settings so that the User Name field has your full email address for both incoming and outgoing server.

The secure password key that I successfully created yesterday in the att.net account but that would not work in Thunderbird yesterday now works in Thunderbird - yay. The simple password that works on the iPhone and through the browser is still not accepted in Thunderbird, but I can now use Thunderbird with the secure password key.

I'm using Thunderbird on Mac OS, so there is no Options > Security > Passwords > Saved Passwords tab, as in the Windows version. I'm not using iCloud Keychain to store a Thunderbird password, either.

Problem solved - thanks.
