I want a link to open in a new tab after I left-click. So I have the "Open links in tabs instead of new windows" setting checked. But it doesn't work, when I click a link it opens in that tab. So I unchecked the box, and still, the link opens in that tab. It doesn't open in a new tab or window.

Isn't there a way to have a link open in a new tab? Or the only way to do it would be left click and go to the "open link in new tab" part of the pop up window?

Hi, Firefox as far back as I can remember - which is years, has never opened links in a new tab. There are extensions that will do that. For example:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-link-with-new-tab/

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus-webextension/

I use https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/right-links/ which I've set to opens links with a long left click.

If you want bookmarks to open in a new tab, you can do that: Type about:config into the address bar, press Enter and accept any warning, then copy and paste the following into the search box browser.tabs.LoadBookmarksInTabs Now on the search result, click the Toggle button at the right-hand end to change from False to True.

If you want URL bar addresses to open in a new tab, type about:config into the address bar, press Enter and accept any warning, then copy and paste the following into the search box browser.urlbar.openintab Now on the search result, click the Toggle button at the right-hand end to change from False to True.

If you are referring to links on a search engine's results, you need to look at their settings: In Google for example, search for anything to open the results page, then > Settings > Search Settings > 'Where results open,' and select 'Open each selected result in a new browser window.'

Correct. I think that the mentioned option is only for links with defined target= "_blank".

I have Firefox on a new laptop. I could have sworn there was a setting to open links in a new tab on my old one. And I think the setting was, "Open links in new tabs." If so, they removed/changed the setting? Why?
