Hi,

I'd like to use keyboard media keys (play/pause, prev, next) to control Spotify web player and Youtube but they don't work. The option is enabled. I'm using Firefox 88.0 on Windows 8.1, so according to this article it should be supported. The keys work on other apps. I've tried in troubleshooting mode as well, no luck. Any ideas?

You can check this pref on the about:config page.

  • media.hardwaremediakeys.enabled = true

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".

Do you mean overruling by other apps? I try only when Firefox running as well but it's the same :(

Yes it's set to true. This can also be controlled from the options I believe, under 'browsing' section.

Nope it works with Chrome and media players. But that made me think of looking into log or something like that. I checked browser console and right after opening spotify web player it displays these:

MediaKeySystemAccess::GetKeySystemStatus(com.widevine.alpha) result=available msg= navigator.requestMediaKeySystemAccess promise rejected 0x80530009 'Key system is unsupported' 4 MediaKeySystemAccess::GetKeySystemStatus(com.widevine.alpha) result=available msg=

Googled the error but no use. Also no errors or anything after key press.

Is there any resolution to this? I have the same issue. Media keys are enabled in about:config and in general options browsing. Media keys are only failing to work in firefox.

@who2364 Nope unfortunately I'm still using Chrome just for listening music. Are you also on Windows 8 or a different OS?
