Getting Annoyed with Thunderbird Notifications

Hi All, I like Thunderbird, I've been using it for a decade+, however I think there have been some changes that have become irksome.

Maybe I'm wrong but it seems Thunderbird has recently changed it's notification routines. In my mind when Thunderbird was in the background and / or minimized it would not play a notification sound. but now it sounds off even when it's minimized or my machine is idle with the screen blanked.

It also seemed to care what hour it was I.E. sleeping times and would not make a peep. Now I hear it day and night.

Yes there is a option / preference to turn of playing sounds but toggling this on and off by going into preferences seems like a lot of work.

Is there a addon to allow controlling notifications depending on focus state of the application, or whether it's minimized or not? etc.

I do not live by my email. But I don't want to shut it down every time I want to focus on a game or programming project.

I think it would be useful to put a notification toggle on the menu or as a addon that could make this easy to turn on and off, or add a preference setting that if Thunderbird is minimized to not allow playing sounds etc.

Certain machine states like screen saver active would also be nice as a preference setting for notifications.

If I've missed an addon that does this or a preference setting, please let me know. Otherwise consider the preference settings above to be a request.

In the mean time I'll look into what it takes to make an addon and publish it if I am so able.

Another option: you could also switch the sound off eg: mute or toggle to headphones (assuming you have headphones) rather than use the computer sound which would be a quicker way of not playing sound out loud. I'm on Windows OS and sound/mute is available in bottom Tray of TaskBar - I use either of those methods as appropriate as it is so much quicker.

I've had a look for addons but none seem to do exactly as you require.
