The other night, after having to forcefully shut down my computer, I got the '"Browser Startup Error The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem." ' error the next morning when I restarted it. I have tried all the solutions I could find, and none of them are working. This is extremely problematic.

Try http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite --- Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems See [[Basic Troubleshooting|#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting:Make a new profile]]

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files) See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox
