when i start firefox, this line is at the top of the start page and shows like this: "Web Images Videos Maps News Shopping more ▼". when i open just a google start page, a "gmail" link has automatically been added to these items in quotes and on the same line, right side is my gmail address and 'sign in' option. i would like to add a gmail link on this line but cannot identify what the line is called, how it is controlled/changed, etc. I would also like to know if I could put my own "news" websites under that link as i don't necessarily like the ones provided.

You can create your own custom homepage using iGoogle, and then set that page as your "homepage" in Firefox.

Use http://www.google.com/ instead of http://www.google.com/firefox as the home page.
