How can I get Firefox to include my smart keywords in its bookmarks search?

Context: I love smart keywords and use them heavily because the make navigating so fast and easy. In fact, they're the main Firefox feature that keeps me from switching to Chrome or Safari. (Not that I'm chomping at the bit to make the switch, but they're always what I tout when friends ask me why I haven't made the switch.)

Here's my situation:

  1. A few months ago, I created a smart keyword to make it easier to go to a particular web page that I use frequently.
  2. The website got reorganized recently, so my old URL doesn't work anymore. I've got the new URL and I want to update the bookmark that has that keyword, so that the keyword will work again.
  3. I go to Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks
  4. When the Library dialog appears, I type the keyword into the search bar, expecting to see that bookmark show up in the search results.
  5. Instead, I get no search results back.
  6. I grumble and start to think of other ways to find the bookmark, like trying to remember the title of the web page so I can search on that. If that's not successful, I start to do a manual hunt (painful!) through my bookmarks folders, etc.
  7. I eventually find the bookmark, replace the URL, double-check that the smart keyword is, in fact, associated with that bookmark, and save my changes.

I really wish that the smart keywords were included in the bookmark search index. It would make this process so much easier.

Side note: I also really wish that the smart keyword field was in the default "Bookmark This Page" dialog. I could care less about tags and ratings, but it always annoys me that I have to open the Library dialog, browse to my new bookmark, and expand the hidden fields to add a smart keyword.

You can open that smart keyword website via the location bar and click the star to edit that bookmark. That will also give you the folder location of that bookmark. If you add the keyword to the name (keyw) then you can find it more easily.
