If I salvage firefox's passwords file from a hard drive that has crashed, will it work on a different hard drive?

more options

Recently my hd stopped working so I got a new one. Most of my important data is saved on an external hd, but I want to get the file that firefox saves passwords to. So my questions are:

1. What is the name/location of the passwords file? 2. Will it be readable on a different hard drive or will it be encrypted?

You need both files - signons.sqlite and key3.db - which work together. The first has the encrypted data and the second contains the encryption keys for the first. Neither can be used without the matching file.
