I had trouble logging in to a site recently so I tried using https instead of http and I got in but only had a text based page. Now I want to go back to using http but Firefox uses https instead of http.

I have set browser.urlbar.autoFill.typed and browser.urlbar.autoFill to false but it still does it even after restarting Firefox. I've deleted cookies, closed the tab to that site and restarted Firefox. Still does it.

I have tried setting keyword.URL to http://*****.******.org/ "obviously with the correct url"

Anyone have any clues how to stop this?

One possible reason for this a "Strict-Transport-Security" header sent by your server (or an application on your server). Once Firefox stores this site-specific setting, you may be stuck with HTTPS forever. See this thread for an example: Firefix 25.0.1 forces SSL even when http:// is specified in the location bar.

The "Forget about this site" feature will clear all known places that Firefox might retain information about the site. This includes, of course, history and cookies, but also site-specific permissions and even bookmarks.

If you want to try that, the option is available in two places:

  • Library dialog (History > Show All History). Right-click any entry for the site.
  • The about:permissions page (type or paste about:permissions in the address bar and press Enter). Choose the site from the list at the left and look for the button in the upper right-hand corner.

I would try 2 things First search with just the name of the site you want using any search engine. second try just www.{name of site}.org. It is possible that the site is moved or gone... or???? Good luck

Even from a google search, it converts to https.

The site still exists when I use a different browser.

Good try but not helpful in this case. Thanks anyway.
