Make sure your mailto setting is set to Yahoo! Mail.

Could you possibly post a screenshot? I don't see any e-mail option when I right-click on a website or link.

I did a screen shot and copied it to Word, but I'm not able to add it here for you to look at. I do have it on my clipboard, but don't know what my next step is for you to see it. Can you help?

It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.

Then use the Browse .... button below the Post a Reply text box to upload the screenshot.

I'm sorry, Ed, but I guess I just don't know how to do that. I open a web page and press PrtScn on my keyboard. Then I go to Word, paste, and save it to my desktop. Then I go to the "browse ' under my reply box, go to browse and click on the file on my desktop. and get, "Error uploading image. What am I doing wrong?

The main thing is to save the screenshot image in a common file format such as PNG or JPG.

Try using the Sniping Tool that is built into Windows Vista and above.

I couldn't use the Sniping Tool, Ed, because as soon as I moved my mouse pointer off the box to go to the Sniping Tool, the box disappeared. This time I pasted the Screen Shot into a Paint file and it worked.

Hi dcarr, I think that right-click menu item is created by a Yahoo! add-on. I'm not sure why that isn't working (I don't use that add-on).

The built-in Firefox feature to email a link to a page can be found on the menu:

  • File menu > Email Link...
  • orange Firefox button > Email Link...

This is the one that know to use Yahoo based on the setting in the Options dialog.

Hi jaxjax, this thread got into a lot of different subjects... Could you be more specific about the problem you are encountering with Yahoo! Mail?

I noticed in 2011 you posted that Email Link didn't work for you with Yahoo! Mail. Is that still the issue?

What about mailto links, for example: example.example.com

Do those generate a message with a name in the "To" space?

If I am on a website that I want to forward I go to "File" then "email link" It sends me to my Yahoo Mail (as it should" but the web address that it shows is a combination of letters including parts dof the actual address I am trying to forward. This what comes up for the East Hampton library;, which should just be www.easthamptonlibrary.com http%3A%2F%2Fwww.easthamptonlibrary.org%2F&subject Help Jaxjax

Hi jaxjax, yes, I see that too. They are not decoding the URL fully, and they are not getting the page title into the subject line.

I can't fix how Yahoo works, but maybe we can come up with a workaround for Yahoo! mail users that isn't too much of a pain. Maybe this:

(1) Open a tab to Yahoo! mail so you can see your current server name, for example:

us-mg4.mail.yahoo.com

You'll need that information in a minute.

(2) Select and copy the following script (please visit this thread to copy the script in case it got corrupted in the email notification):

javascript:void(window.open('https://us-mg4.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launch?action=compose&to=&subject='+encodeURIComponent(document.title)+'&body='+encodeURIComponent(location.href),'_blank'));

(3) Create a new bookmark in a convenient location, such as the Bookmarks Toolbar

  • If you usually display the Bookmarks Toolbar, right-click it and choose New Bookmark.
  • If you prefer not to display the Bookmarks Toolbar, click the bookmarks menu, then right-click an existing bookmark and choose New Bookmark.

For "Name" you can choose something like Email-Y.

For "Location", paste the script. Then move the cursor to the beginning of the line and edit the Yahoo! server to match your mail server.

Finally, click Add.

Now on a page you want to share, click your new bookmark and a message should launch in a new tab with the correct subject and body. (For me, it takes several seconds to appear after the Yahoo! inbox appears.)

Any luck?
