After creating a new Contact in the Address Book, I drag the contact into a Contact List. The message appears at the bottom of the application window '1 contact copied'. Now I click on the Contact List and cannot see the newly added contact.

If I export the Address Book in .ldif format I can see the Contact is in the Address Book and associated with the Contact List I dragged it into.

I can drag the same contact into a second Contact List, receive the same confirmation message '1 contact copied', and see the Contact in the second Contact List.

Why does a contact not appear in all Contact Lists that I have dragged it into?

have you tried clicking on something else in the address book list and back to your list. I am guessing that the list is just not repainted in some circumstances.
