How do I change my default proxy settings?

For some reason when I start Firefox lately I've had to change the proxy settings to "auto-detect proxy settings for this network" rather than the default "use system proxy settings." Is there a way to change the default proxy setting to auto-detect? I've just been changing the setting every time I start Firefox, which is kind of tedious.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Actually, I think the problem is that the "use system proxy settings" is the factory default. I'm trying to find a way to change and save the proxy setting so I don't have to switch from the default every time I start Firefox.
