I keep getting my settings of firefox 38.0.5 Mac Yosemite, to before I refreshed it, and I don't know how to conserve my refreshed settings for good.

What did you expect "refresh" to do? It resets it to its default state. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings After using that, you should have a new profile, with the old one on the desktop.
