My home page is on a case sensitive system. FIrefox keeps setting the capital letters to non-caps. How do I fix this so Firefox loads my home page correctly?

Do you have Norton software?

We have seen such an issue reported in the past that was likely caused by Norton software.

Try to boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that has effect.

Firefox should not change the caps. There is no reason for that as many passwords use caps.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

You can right-click and select "Inspect Element" to open the Inspector (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) with this element selected. You can check the font used for selected text in the Font tab in the right pane of the Inspector.

Which of these is/are the best description of the problem:

  • At startup, the address is wrong on the Options page. If changed, it works correctly for the rest of the session, i.e., Home button and Ctrl+n load the page correctly. However, it resets to the wrong address when I exit and start Firefox again.

    • Utility/security software with a browser settings/home page protection feature can cause settings changes to revert between sessions. For example, Advanced SystemCare does this. You may need to disable this feature.
  • The address is correct on the Options page, but when loading the home page (e.g., Ctrl+n) the wrong address is requested.
    • Occasionally users report that an extension or a proxy modifies the case of URLs. I'm having trouble finding those threads, but you might check into those possibilities.
  • Some other combination of circumstances...

Let me give more details. When I open Firefox it fails to find my home page because it has reset the caps letters to small letters. I save it correctly in the Options as caps. Then I exit and later reopen Firefox. It fails to find the page. the home page is www.astronomy.ua.edu/4000WS/ note that the WS are caps. This has happened before some operatingsystems ago, and I do not remember how it was solved.

Okay, but after you fix the home page preference, before exiting Firefox, do these work correctly or does Firefox fail to implement the change?

  • Home button
  • Ctrl+n to launch a new window
  • desktop shortcut (or pinned Taskbar button)
