How do I ensure that the e-mails that are stored locally are deleted after 30 days? When I am accessing the Synchronization & Storage menu in the Account Settings, I see an option that allows me to delete e-mails that are older than a certain date, but this option seems to imply that the messages will also be deleted on the remote webmail server as well. I don't want this. I just want the local copies to be deleted so that hard drive space isn't continuously used up.

As a secondary question, in what directory are thunderbird emails stored?

But that's not how IMAP works. If it's on the server then by default you see it locally. You may want to set up folders for long term storage on the server and not subscribe these folders in Thunderbird, making them invisible. But you'd have to go to webmail, or temporarily subscribe these folders to work with them.
