Tabs loading super slow if at all; clicking on page hanging/nonresponsive; Facebook only shows HTML. Refreshed-didn't help.

I'm having to submit this using Chrome because FF is literally unusable ATM. I've preferred FF for years, but suddenly today performance tanked. Pinned tabs had spin symbol for 30+ mins; Facebook wouldn't load, just showed HTML; took minutes to respond to each click on various parts of a page. Finally refreshed/reset but hasn't changed the slow/spinning pinwheel/forever to load pinned and new tabs/hanging or nonresponsive to clicks on page. FF 45.0.1 on Mac OSX 10.11.3

If you have the Ghostery extension then try to update.

  • 3-bar menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions"
  • click the cogwheel button (left of Search bar) to check if there is a (compatibility) update available.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
