Does Firefox automatically import my Chrome passwords?

more options

I just did a fresh install of Firefox 47 on Windows 10. I did the custom option and didn't select any importing of any settings. But to my surprised all my Chrome saved passwords were imported into Firefox. Is this by designed? This really concerns me that Firefox would import all my Chrome passwords without my permission. Or am I not understanding how Firefox/Chrome passwords are handled?

Firefox can import passwords from Chrome. However, it doesn't make sense that you told it not to and it still did. Or maybe it doesn't bother to ask?? (I have had Firefox much longer than Chrome and I can't recall what was imported from IE, if anything.)

By the way, if you plan to use Firefox's password manager, I recommend setting a Master Password to protect your saved logins from this kind of access. See: Use a Primary Password to protect stored logins and passwords. I don't know whether Chrome has a similar feature which would have prevented Firefox or other programs from extracting the saved logins.
