Just a couple of hours ago, my Flash started acting up in Firefox; It's very strange...it was working just fine a couple of hours ago, and now, when I try to stream any sort of video, the audio loads and plays as if the video were playing. Depending on the player, some interactive elements load as well (e.g. HBOGO loads the audio, and the media controls. xfinity loads audio, but will not DISPLAY the media controls (though they can still be interacted with). A lot placed recommend I turn off hardware acceleration, but when I try to view the settings in the player, they're either invisible, or they don't load at all (I can't tell). YouTube videos (and I would assume other HTML5 videos load just fine. Silverlight videos load just fine. I tested the same pages in Chrome, and they load just fine...

I've done a lot of googling, and attempted everything I could find. Firefox is entirely up to date. My add-ons are all up to date. My video drivers are up to date. I've tried disabling all my other add-ons. I've tried changing Flash to activate only when asked. I've restarted both the browser and my computer multiple times. I cleared cookies...and probably a few other things that I've forgotten about at this point...

It's truly baffling.

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
