Double click e-mail to read, 4 e-mail tabs appear. E-mails from same person. Can I change to just get the e-mail I want to read?

My wife got a bit confused and pressed a few keys using Thunderbird. Now when I try to read an e-mail in my 'inbox', I get a number of tabs appearing across the screen, each containing other e-mails from the same person [and possibly, same subject] How can I revert back to double clicking an e-mail and only reading that particular e-mail???

Chosen solution

It sounds like you have set to view e-mails as threaded. When the thread is collapsed, then double-clicking the top e-mail in the thread will open every e-mail in the thread.

So either expand the thread to show all the e-mails in the thread, or turn off threaded view.
