How can I have several "From" email addresses for only one account?

more options

I mapped my other email addresses to gmail but then moved to Thunderbird and mapped my gmail to Thunderbird. In gmail I had the option of having my mapped email addresses in the drop-down for my "From" field so I could respond from the different email accounts. I didn't have to make a new or extra account in gmail to do this. Can I do this in Thunderbird? I haven't been able to find out how without having to make new accounts.

Chosen solution

Many people have more than one email addresses possibly on different servers and in Thunderbird they create a mail account for each email address. This means they can receive emails from various email address and servers and see them all in one view. No need to send/forward everything from other email addresses to gmail server.

However it is possible to use 'Identities'. I've included two links which discuss 'Identites' and I believe this is what you are looking for.

You will notice the articles mention: 'Tools > Account Settings' This is the route used if you are using the 'Menu bar' toolbar.

Other methods reaching 'Account Settings' in no particular order of preference.

  • Left click on mail account name in Folder Pane and select 'View settings for this account'
  • Right click on mail account in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
  • Menu icon (3 lines) > Options > Account Settings
