How can I gt the tabs back? The new layout absolutely sucks. I would like to get my tab bar back under the menu bar. Having to hit Ctrl T for a new tab is a pain in the a**.

Hi, what do you see on your tab bar if you do not see your tabs?

Tabs still should be below the menu bar and above the main address/navigation bar. Where are your tabs now?
If these problems are related to custom style rules -- in a userChrome.css file -- used to move the tabs below the address and bookmark bars, you might consider trying a new set of rules from r/FirefoxCSS on Reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/FirefoxCSS/comments/nq2d0q/tabs_on_bottom_for_firefox_89/
I do not have a tab bar at all. I have to hold my cursor over the FF tab in the Windoz task bar to see "previews"" of my open tabs, then select the one I wish to view. In FF 88 I had my tab bar underneath the bookmarks bar but now it's gone and I'ld really, really like it back. I'm kicking myself for doing this upgrade because the developers have a real thing about tabs (they always screw with 'em}: it was an issue when they came out with FF 72 but I was able to fix it by editing the userChrome.css file.

Okay, I followed your Reddit link (tya) and followed the directions exactly. I now have a tab bar but it is above the bookmarks bar and below the address bar. Any idea how I can move it below the bookmarks bar?

That's interesting, I guess whoever developed that set of rules doesn't use the Bookmarks Toolbar.
Could you follow up in that thread? I'm positive that would be faster than me starting from scratch.
The problem has been resolved. It was a short between the keyboard and the seat. I created a new userChrome with the info you provided and turned off all the proton features and now everything is as it should be.
used the new css and now have my tabs back but they are above the tool bar not below the bookmarks. How do I adjust it so tabs are below bookmarks?

Hi dave2282r, could you see whether they've cracked the code in this thread:
set toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomiztions.stylesheets to true and problem solved. THANKS
Please please please. Can someone use plain, easy to follow directions to fix this, that does NOT involve code? I'm mean, seriously, this is not rocket science here. One second I had the usual tabs below the toolbar, and the next they are at the top. MEMO to Firefox: WE ALL HATE IT. Change it back or post a normal way to fix it. I should not have to download an add-on either. I use Firefox because it doesn't require all this b.s. C'mon people. I had some hope when I saw Dave answered, but it was incomprehensible.

History: Tabs on top are the default since Firefox 4. The built-in preference to switch the position was removed in Firefox 29. The Classic Theme Restorer extension that could switch it for you stopped working in Firefox 57.
Status: Since Nov. 2017, people who prefer tabs on bottom have needed to update their userChrome.css code every 8-15 versions. No paradigm shift this week, just the next update.
