macOS Mojave M1 contacts cannot access macOS contacts
Thunderbird does not show my macOS contacts. I am using version 91.7.0 on a MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021) in M1 Pro processor. In Thunderbird contacts, the option for "Use Mac OS X Address Book" is selected. In macOS Security & Privacy > Privacy > Contacts, thunderbird does not show up (and there is no add button in this category). I imagine Thunderbird never prompted the system for the correct permission.
Chosen solution
There is a long discussion here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1720257 including a workaround that involves temporarily installing an older version of TB, then updating to the current release.

This worked perfectly. I closed current version of Thunderbird. I run version 78.8.1 from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/78.8.1/mac/en-GB/
I just copied to Desktop instead of overwriting the one in Applications. It immediately prompted to open contacts. Then reopened current version and it worked flawlessly.
It seems someone just needs to add the prompt to the current version of Thunderbird.
This is a workaround. The bug still needs to be fixed.
