Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To use Thunderbird, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, restart your device, or use a different profile.

I don't understand. Is this a bug? In Fedora? In the web page coding? It seems to be a new problem. I've used mailto links in the past without this.

Using 115.8.1 (64-bit) on Fedora 39 and FF 124.0.1 (64 bit)

Hello? Is there an answer out there for my issue?

As nearly as I can tell, I have the correct default app settings in both Firefox and Fedora. In any case, the problem is that Thunderbird doesn't seem to respond properly to 'mailto' rather than mailto now knowing what mail client to use.

So why can't I use mailto with Thunderbird without first shutting down the open instance of Thunderbird? There seems to be lots online about Thunderbird not having shut down properly, but that's not the problem here.

Thanks.

I have the same error message when using the 'Email a link to this page' icon/button in Firefox (distro package). Thunderbird is installed as a Flatpak. I'm using openSUSE Tumbleweed (KDE Plasma desktop), with the latest Firefox 127 and Thunderbird 115.12.2 When I close Thunderbird and then click on the 'Email a link to this page' icon again in Firefox it prompts Thunderbird to start up, and opens a new message window at the same time with the page link automatically inserted in the new message. However, clicking on the 'Email a link to this page' icon in Firefox again no longer works, unless I close Thunderbird again first.

Since the last update I am experiencing the exact same error message.

From firefox if I click on any mail to link it tries to launch thunderbird even though it is already open, and I get that error dialogue.

I am unable to click any mail two links at all now with this latest update.
