Firefox 4 seems to have omitted the little progress bar at the bottom right of the monitor which indicated how close you were to getting the web site you had just clicked to retrieve. What happened to it?

In former versions of Firefox, there was a little rectangular window at the bottom right of the screen which got progressively filled with green squares as your latest command was being processed. This enabled you to know that the computer had received the command and roughly how close it was to completing the requested task. No such window appears in Firefox 4. Was that omitted or do I have to do something to get it back?

Thank you. I did what you suggested but didn't see any bar appear. Perhaps it will when I start surfing the web. Thank you again.

Re: the add on you suggest. I am trying it. Is there a place to go on that website which explains how to use it?

  1. The Status Bar has been eliminated and replaced by the Add-on Bar. You can restore some of the prior Status Bar functionality on the new Add-on Bar by
    • installing the Status-4-Evar extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/
    • then drag 3 widgets to the Add-on Bar from the Customize Toolbar window (the 3 widgets are: Status Text, Progress Meter, Download Status). To open the Customize Toolbar window
      • Using Menu Bar: click View > Toolbars > Customize
      • Using Firefox button: click Firefox button, click small arrow to the right of Options, click Toolbar Layout
      • Note: Instead of either of the above, you can do as in the past, right-click an empty space in the Navigation toolbar and choose Customize
    • set options for Status-4-Evar:
      • Menu Bar: Tools > Add-ons, click on Status4Ever, click Options, set options to your liking
      • Firefox button: click Firefox button, click Add-ons, scroll down to Status-4-Evar, click Options, set options to your liking

In my post:

  • then drag 3 widgets to the Add-on Bar from the Customize Toolbar window (the 3 widgets are: Status Text, Progress Meter, Download Status). To open the Customize Toolbar window.....

The 3 widgets:
Status Text = url on mouse over on a link, url when downloading, Done, etc.
Progress Meter = progress of downloading page
Download Status = number of downloads in progress, No downloads, click open Download window

I positioned the 3 widgets on the left of the Add-on Bar - see image below.
