It seems that Firefox 18.0.1 has a generell problem. I'm using it in XP within vmware workstation. Since the update is installed I notice very slow keyboard reaction when I type in a URL or a search keyword. Also by typing in an URL and selecting a line from the history or by trying to delete somthing on the url or search bar. Firfox is already resetet and all Add Ons are deletet or deaktivated. The status is the same in private mode. The waiting time is almost longer as 10 sec. While the keyboard input is pending the menu bar can be used. Currently I using Google chrome to write this lines.

hello, maybe the file in your profile folder that stores the information about your history has become corrupted. please go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information > profile - show folder... then windows explorer should open up your profile folder - close firefox. in the folder look for the file named places.sqlite and rename it (this will clear your whole browsing history and bookmarks - however you can restore your set of bookmarks afterwards).

one the first look that could be one of the reasons. But then, in google search type some text than try to correct. The result 20 sec nothing than the line was deleted expect two character. Select one menu button then the two characters left in the search bar are deleted. Try to type an URL --- 20 sec nothing than the line is displayed. Try to select the line to cut and past --- nothing happens. Click into the the search bar ---- the text is copied.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

It's the same behavior. It looks like a problem on XP on vmware virtual machine. With version 17.0.1 everthing works fine. I hope it will be better with the next version.

Got the same problem. The UI freezes completely in Windows XP under VMware Workstation (both version 9 and older). Same behavior in Firefox 18 and 19. Downgrading to Firefox 17 makes the problem disappear. All addons have been disabled. Tried renaming places.sqlite (according to previous comment). Removed "everything" using "clear recent history". Disabled hardware acceleration. Nothing helps.

The attached animated gif hopefully shows the problem. When scrolling up and down, the UI suddenly freezes. The mouse button is still pressed, and released when the scrollbar is at the bottom. The address bar is clicked, without any reaction (no cursor and not possible to write). When the "Firefox" button is clicked, the UI suddenly updates to show the bottom of the page (where the scrollbar is supposed to be). When the page is scrolled again, the entire UI has frozen. Clicking the "Firefox" button updates the UI sometimes, but not every time. The freeze can occur anytime; when scrolling, when typing in the address bar, when typing in forms on the web page and so on.
