Installed FF mobile and Sync, PC is now pounded with obtrusive ads, what to do?

more options

I love (loved) FireFox! So much that I installed FF Mobile on my Android smart phone, I then added the device to my Sync and turned it on. Now FF on my PC is pounded with pop-up ads. Each time I follow a link the new page starts an annoying ad with sound. When I try to close or stop the ad with the X icon attached to it, it opens a new full page ad, with sound, in a new tab and most often forces focus to that new tab. I've tried disabling add-ons by starting FF in safe mode - no help. Now the last time I opened FF it opened to four new ad windows. I HATE THIS. I'm trying to get work done. What can I do? Jeff
