The History window automatically opens in Firefox when I click it, but it didn't used to. This is nervewracking on my muscle memory--I just upgraded from 16.0.2 to 33 today! Is there any way I can set it so I have to click on today's history for it to be shown?

It may be less problematic if you get rid of older versions of plugins:
Shockwave Flash 11.3 r300
Shockwave Flash 11.2 r202
However if you close the History and open Firefox again does it change? How to fix preferences that won't save may be helpful as well.

Could you describe what you're seeing in more detail? In particular, are you seeing:
- History sidebar opens to the left of your home page
- Library dialog ("Show All History") opens in a second window
- Session history list ("this is embarrassing") opens instead of your home page or previous session
Are you clicking the History item on the Menu bar or some toolbar button?
- Tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the hidden Menu Bar
Earlier Firefox versions used to have a toolbar button to open the History sidebar, but you would need an extension to have this in current releases with the Australis user interface. There is a History button in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list.
In current Firefox releases (29 and later) the orange Firefox menu button has been replaced by the three-bar Firefox Menu button at the far right end of the Navigation Toolbar and this button is always visible whether the Menu Bar is visible or hidden.
- There is a star like button next to the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar to bookmark the current web page and a "Show your bookmarks" button next to it to open the Bookmarks in a drop down menu.
You can find "Show All Bookmarks" to open the Bookmarks Manager (Library) at the bottom of this drop-down list - If you bookmark a page then "Bookmark This Page" in the Bookmarks menu changes to "Edit This Bookmark"
You can make the title bar visible via the "Title Bar" button at the bottom left in the Customize palette window. You can still have the Menu Bar visible via the right-click context menu of a toolbar to have menus like the File menu with Print (Ctrl+P) and Print Preview and the Bookmarks and History and Tools menus.
