I'm running firefox 27.0.2 in Windows 7. For the last few weeks whenever I close firefox I get a question about closing multiple tabs. The numberr listed is always greater than the number I haver open. I've checked the number listed under open tabs and the ones shown are the ones I have open. I even get this problem if I open firefox and immediately close it (the only tab visable is my home page which is on my laptop. I have tried to solve this problem with no success. I ran a complete virus and malware check since I was concerned is that an open tab that I can not see could be a securtity problem. However, I found no infections. Any suggestions?

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Does Ctrl + 1 to Ctrl + 8 go to the first 8 visible tabs?

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js file in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

Make sure that Firefox is closed to be able to delete the sessionstore.js file.
