e-mails take about 1 min each to arrive - can I do anything to speed up receipt of e-mails

Sending e-mails is quick but they arrive really slowly so getting say 50 e-mails in the morning when downloading overnight stuff can take over an hour!

Thunderbird loaded on brand new HP hardware and used for the first time - nothing to do with my broadband cos were loading fine via outlook before changed over

Do you have an anti-virus checking the messages? That can slow things down.

This article from Mozillazine might help find other sources.

Don't forget to 'compact' folders on a regular basis.

I do have MacAfee anti virus but it is not slowing anything else and does not affect send speed. I have compacted all folders but this made no difference. This speed issue makes the product almost unusable for me!

I also cannot get the spell check to operate either automatically as I type which is what I want, or even manually.

Any help gratefully received before I abandon the software

Thank you

re: McAfee anti virus

This product is well known for slowdown issues with Thunderbird.
